TREASURE PLANET 6
MORE SILVER
Yesterday I mentionend that Ron and John suggested "The Duke" as a rolemodel for Silver. That was fine, but for me he's the archetypal American, and I have a hard time seeing him as an english seaman. Uli Meyer suggested Anthony Hopkins for his movie, but for me this guy above , whom I like so much that I don't know his name, would be the perfect Silver.

The lantern-jawed gentleman whose name you do not know, is an actor who went by the name of Harry Andrews.

Yup, Harry Andrews alright!

to me he looks a lot like
TREVOR HOWARD in his younger
years
Except Trevor Howard - although a great friend of Harry Andrews' - wasn't in Moby Dick with Gregory Peck and Orson Welles ;)
Harry Andrews was one the greatest character actors of the 50's and 60's. See him as the Regimental Sergeant Major in "The Hill"....An incomparable performance in a great film. Harry normally played 'the boss's man', the 'Stalwart': roles to which he gave uncommon depth...Perhaps you have to have grown up in class-bound Britain to see what he was really doing. He would have made a great Captain Smollet but I don't see him as Silver.
Anthony Hopkins always radiates strong, sympathetic intelligence. He would be a marvellous Silver...But how the hell would you animate that?
Great drawings Harald...Ole, ole.
Nevertheless it helped me, finding "my" handle to the character, more than John Wayne would.
You're absolutly right, you have to be british to get all the nuances of a british actor to truly understand him or his performances. You'll never get Gert Fröbe ( Goldfinger ) a 100% and theres no way of explaining. Did Uli ever introduce you to his role as a pedophile in " The Pledge"? Marvelous !!! I have a sketch somewhere of him in that role.
bring it on...
