Sketches

A couple of quick first sketches for an industrial cleaning-company, trucks, containers, that sort of thing. The elephant and his team didn't make it.

Roger Rabbit Storyboards Prt. 1

I promised you this a while ago. These are some old storyboardsketches I did together with Hans Bacher over at Amblin in 1987. I won't go into detail about every single pic, but I'll keep updating this throughout the next days. Keep looking in and enjoy.

Most of this stuff is Eddie looking for Jessica Rabbit in this huge Toon-Hotel. Here he finds the door blocked by the doorknob from "Alice". Sadly RR takes place in 1947, so using a character from a later dated movie was a " no,no".

A tour through Amblin from a magazine of that time. I wasn't allowed to take my own pictures and I had to turn the camera in, when I tried it nevertheless. So I kept these as a souvenir. I have no idea, who the guy in the pictures is.Probably the gardener.

Happily Never After

So here it is after all: The HNA-Trailer.
A loooooooong time ago in a galaxy far far away I too had that troubled project on my desk. It was one of those typicall German briefings : Hired for a week or two I was asked to come up with a bunch of sketches, no chance to do some real serious, professional work, just a bit of doodling.
You might have seen some of this sketches in a different context before, anyway : here they are again, and please check out the trailer under the above link.

The wizad had a little pet back then, a cross of dog and dragon

Audrey Hepburn as Sabrina was my brief for Cinderella

Robbie Williams was role model for the cook. That might give you an idea about how long ago this was,Judging from the trailer it changed to Johnny Depp.

Billy Wilder writes "Nacho Libre"

This is from Cameron Crowe's "Conversation with Wilder". Interesting. Would have been nice, if they had given Wilder credit for his idea for "Nacho Libre". Or did they ?

Chuck

There's no excuse for my laziness in answering your mails, Chuck, I just seem to be unable to take care of my personal correspondence. There's an unanswered mail from you floating around on my desktop for almost a year. All that doesn't mean , that I'm not appreciating your mails, it just means, that I'm totally unorganized, overworked and incapable. It kind of works likes this : Oh, I gotta answer this mail in a quiet minute and not in a rush, but that minute never seems to come. Anyway, enough of the selfaccusation and back to the mail itself. I'm glad you called and I'm glad to see you're still around,I have been following your work and your website since quite a while.
Yes, those were the days, huh ? I often think how lucky I was to be part of this and I totally unappreciated it at the time andI underestimated the impact and importance of that picture, I just had a great time back then and I was enjoying myself.

For those of you, who are just listening in to this, Chuck Gammage and I met on Roger Rabbit, Chuck animated Baby Hermann and many other memorable things and his running his own studio with some breathtaking animation now, which you may check out under the above link.
These pics are some caricatures Chuck did of me and Alfred.
It's great to hear from you Chuck, take care and I hope to run into you again someday soon.
