Some nice animated German commercials from the sixties , back when smoking was still good for your health. Thanks to Werbungistscheisse who blogged these on Youtube.

Hang himself - rope snaps, jump out of window - gets stopped by parapee, lies down on train track - the train goes the other way, etc, etc. Eventually the HB cigarette guy offers him a fag, he has a puff and falls backwards into a coffin.
Apparently the client did not share the sense of humor and cancelled the campaign.
If this is true, I'd love to see it one day.

Uli, I remember you telling me that story when we were working at the Bavaria in maybe 1983 or 84 or so (?) for that japanese or chinese feature and they had nothing to do for us yet and we ended up storyboarding the titles for Enemy Mine, remember ? I was there again a few month ago and they still have that Enemy Mine board up.

Needless to say I was impressed when I saw these some months back. Very clever animation despite what brand they were made for (I would've have cared either way, I wish we had ads like these over here).
