It was 20 years ago today ....

...or more even.
Cleaning out the attic I found these old sketchbooks from 84/85. I was in my early 20's then. Thought you might enjoy a walk down memorylane with me. I was really, really having fun doing these, I was drawing constantly, on the train, in front of the TV, having breakfast, ...it was like a newly discovered playground, unlike today I was drawing not for money, just for fun. This was about the time that I discovered, how much fun it was to go really wild and over the top, and that I would get away with doing roughs instead of clean, finished paintings and at the same time I was accomplishing a certain security about the whole process, not least through peoples positive reactions on things that I had kept for myself until then.
Here we go :

Does anybody remember this french version of the Jeckyll and Hyde-story,"The Testament Of Dr. Cordelier" by Jean Renoir and the brilliant pantomimelike-acting by Jean Luis Barreault in both roles ?Well, I do ...

Maggie was big back then.

great! there's also that fury character with the scully head beneath the uncle scroog's head who seems so familiar...is it a creation of your own?

Mamu, yes, I never copied anything, not an existing drawing I mean, caricatures, yes, apart fom some Asterix or Tintin stuff , when I was a kid. All these thing were done without thinking, just letting it flow, improvising, like a pianist would improvise at a piano, that was the fun about it and the great relief, I was finally among people who could read a drawing and see it's potential, didn't have to do clean-ups anymore, to make an impression.

sounds good =)
I'm familiar with your works, a big fan and I know you don't need to copy.
Was just this one who reminds me of a character that lies in blurred childhood memory, so I thought maybe you were inspired by the same. Or maybe, you inspired someone else;
salut,

Who knows, everything's possible. BTW : I didn't say, I wasn't stealing. But remember what Michael Caine said : Only steal the good stuff !
