More Early Tarzan Sketches

Our biggest problem was, that we had a lot of gorillas with distinctive characters, but very little differences visually to tell them apart. They all look pretty much the same, have the same size, the same color etc.
So we started with this springboard above, giving clear silhouettes to our main gorillas Kerchak, Kala and Terk. Just for us and just as a start.

  1. all of these are frrr*in' great. Funny though that everytime I see concept/character development sketches of the gorillas from tarzan, they all look pretty much the same and like what you see on the screen, and it seems they didn't really evolve( you say these are early sketches) like you get with so many other characters. I love the red pencil drawing that's a bit more abstract.. of course that wasn't the direction they wanted to go in, but still..

Were those 3 shapes the basis for those characters all the way through to final model sheets?

  5. Hi Harald, great to see these again. Even though the characters in Tarzan were clearly your designs, they seem to have lost something design-wise on the screen.
