The drawing that started everything and what happens when youre cartoon-character takes on a life of his own ...

This must be one of the first drawings of the until-then faceless stagecharacter, that Hans Bacher and I did. I think we even did it on cel on a painted background to give it that "animation-feel". It must have been around 1985 or so. The first comicstrips came shortly after that.

This is , what happens , when people you never met dress up as your character. It must be from one of those stageshows that theatercompanies are still performing of the first story that Herman ever wrote for Kwak.

You know you made it rrrrrrrrrealllllllly big, when some weird guy in Finland does a "Alfred Jodocus F***-Remix " and puts it on the web. Click the headline above and listen to it, if you dare.

Oh yes, and we eventually also made it into wikipedia.....

As you can see, Herman's vision of an upcoming themepark is very precise already, won't be too long till the gates open finally...

Until then, go and listen to the original stageshow on Itunes...that should keep you busy for a while.

Or, even better, pick up one of the upcoming DVDs with the TV-series, the first six DVDs will be out in Germany and Holland at Easter, pretty soon that is....

I'm angry that I can't hold of Alfred Kwak on DVD in english. I watched this show years ago but to this day I can't find anyone else here in London who saw it. I loved it. It's a shame the German DVD hasn't got the english track. It's a greater shame I didn't learn German a long time ago.

Hi Mr. Siepermann, cool blog!

And great news that Kwak is FINALLY coming to DVD. It's about time. I hope they've done a good job with the audio and videoquality though, cause it would be a shame if they messed that up.

It's a shame they arent released in season-boxes though. I'd love to have ALL Kwak's, but they've decided to release them by 'themes' !?

Do you have any idea behind the motivation for that decision? Wouldnt it have been better if they had just released them in chronological order?

Anyway, love your work, and your blog... and I'm so glad I finally found out more about the artist behind Alfred J. Kwak (apart from herman van Veen ofcourse :) ), cause there are shockingly few pages about Kwak on the web...

PS, I believe you mentioned/hinted at a new series of Kwak being in the works? Could you share any new info on that? Would be awesome to see Alfred make a return. Obviously, the last 10-15 years of world-politics would have given enough inspiration for a bunch of new episodes (the fear-mongering, the oil-wars, the terrorisme and fear of the unknown/other religion, etc etc etc.)

Anyway, good luck with everything your doing, and hope to see and hear more about Kwak (among others) in the near future :)

Greetz, Yi

Thank you Yi for your nice comment.
The reason why Kwwak is not published in chronlogical order is simple. It has been done many times before, or should we say : tried before ? The first couple of episodes have been published in Holland and Germany and then the companies went bankrupt before the whole edition was through. Nevertheless many people have the first 10 or so episodes at home and will most probably not buy them again, and if they don't buy them, the rest of the series will not be published.Got it ? Thats why we decided to publish them in a different order this time. Once they're all published youre free to rearrange them in any way you like. And yes, there are talks about a new series, but I'm far too supersticious to go into detail before it is really happenbing. When the time has come, I'll let you and everyone else know .....thanks and take care, H
